Boys' Cross Country
2015 Season Review
The boys’ cross country team ran its three best races at the end of the season in the county, sectional and regional meets. After a strong fourth-place finish in the sectional, the squad finished sixth in the regional, seven points shy of fourth place. Senior Michael Schiefelbein earned team MVP honors and senior Liam Hosty won the team’s mental attitude award. Junior Neil O’Brien missed the first portion of the season due to injury and rebounded to run as the Rebels’ number one runner in the state series and qualify for semi-state as an individual. Freshman Nick Perkins ran as Roncalli’s number two runner for most of the season. He ran a season-best 17:08 and broke the freshman school record by 18 seconds. His three best times of the season (17:08, 17:16, 17:23) are the three fastest freshman times in school history. Sophomore Chandler Gibson was voted the team’s most improved runner. Seniors Matt Pluntz and Jackson Schoettle were named first team Academic All-State by the Indiana Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (IATCCC). The team dedicated its season to Thomas Abell, a 2006 Roncalli alumnus and three-year varsity cross country runner who died on June 28, 2015.
