Girls' Soccer 2015 Review
The girls’ soccer team won a sectional title for the first time in seven years and authored one of the program’s best seasons in recent memory. The team won a program-record 17 matches, against only four losses, and was state-ranked as high as 18 at the end of the season. The sectional title was earned in a 3-1 win in penalty kicks over Perry Meridian. The squad started strong, winning its first seven matches (five by shutout) and outscoring the opposition 25-3. After losing to two top-10 programs, the team ran off eight straight wins, during which it outscored the opposition 30-4. The second winning streak started with a 3-2 win over 10th-ranked Cathedral. Senior Kristen Reece earned team MVP honors. Seniors Gabriella Battiston and Erika Dow shared the team’s mental attitude award. Reece was named first team All-District 5 by the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA). Junior Courtney Reece was a second team All-District 5 selection. The Marion County Coaches of Girls Sports Association (MCCGSA) named Kristen Reece, along with junior Josie Asher, All-Marion County. Seniors Gabriella Battiston, Erika Dow, Mary DeMoss, Kristen Reece and Kylie Koors, along with juniors Josie Asher, Courtney Reece and Maddie Scheil were all named Academic All-State by the ISCA. Battison, DeMoss, Dow, Kristen Reece and senior Madalyn Jahnke also garnered Academic All-State honors from the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association (ICGSA).
