Softball 2015 Review
The softball team checked off all three of its season goals and added an additional title to the trophy case. The team posted a 26-9 record, surpassing a preseason goal of at least 20 wins. The goal of a Marion County title was accomplished after wins over Lawrence Central (5-1), Franklin Central (5-4), Southport (10-0) and Decatur Central (5-1). The Marion County title was the program’s third overall and second in the last three years. The team reached its goal of a sectional title with wins over Lawrence North (15-2), Lawrence Central (3-1) and Cathedral (7-1). The following week, the teams won its seventh regional title with a 5-1 home win over Greenfield-Central before a standing-room only crowd. Although the season ended with a tough 1-0 loss to Floyd Central in the semi-state semifinal, the team finished with wins in 19 of its final 25 games.
Senior Megan Choinacky was named first team All-State, first team All-Marion County and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star game. Senior Maddie Mulinaro was named first team All-County, as was junior Olivia Hoffman. Hoffman was also an All-District 3 selection and established a new program single-season record with 52 runs scored. Hoffman and freshman Jordan Jenkins were named team co-MVPs and the team shared the mental attitude award.
