2011-2012 Season Review

Both the Boys' and Girls' Roncalli Swimming Teams had great seasons this year. Head Coach Ed Merkling was awarded the Coach of the Year Award at the Boys' Sectional Meet. Roncalli congratulates Coach Merkling! At the end of the season, after wins over Greenwood, Southport, Lawrence Central, Indian Creek and Speedway, members of the Girls' Swimming and Diving Team qualified for Sectional Finals at Franklin Community and included: Natalie Marshall, Rachael Redmond, Abby Pongracz, Lexi Boor, Mackenzie Harrington, Emily Griffin and Elly Dubord. The Boys' Swimming and Diving Team had a great night of swimming in the opening round of the 2012 Swimming & Diving Sectionals. There were 17 different lifetime best performances and the following swimmers advanced to Sectional Finals and also competed to advance to State Finals: Brandon Stuckey, Andrew Shuck, Andy Bauer, Gavin Griffiths, Nolan Dalman, Michael Millott, Jack Niezer, Bobby McKay, Lucas LaRosa and Patrick Murphy. Senior Swimmer Jack Niezer ended up winning the Sectional Championship in the 50 freestyle to earn a spot in the 2012 IHSAA Boys Swimming and Diving Championship. Swimming is considered to be one of the hardest sports to earn a spot in the State Finals, as only the winner of Sectionals advances to the State Finals, along with any other swimmer that beats the state cut time, which does not happen very often. Jack won by three tenths of a second and placed 26th at State Finals in the 50 free.
