Boys' Swimming & Diving
Boys Swimming and Diving 2014 Review
Despite carrying just 11 athletes on the squad, the boys’ swimming and diving team finished the dual/tri meet season with a strong 8-1 record and placed fifth in both the Marion County Championships and the sectional. The nine boys who swam in the sectional finals produced 12 lifetime bests, two season bests and two school records. As a result, coach Ed Merkling was named the Franklin Community Sectional Coach of the Year, as voted on by the participating coaches.
As a team, the swimmers established two new individual school records and two relay records. Sophomore Eddie Huck set new marks in the 200 Individual Medley and the 100 Backstroke. Huck, juniors Nolan Dalman and Andrew Shuck, along with sophomore Adam Pongracz, broke the 400 Medley Relay school record. Huck, Dalman, Shuck and senior Ben Carpenter set a new record in the 800 Free Relay.
Huck was named the team’s MVP, while Carpenter earned the team’s Mental Attitude Award. Sophomore Ryan Armstrong was named Most Improved Swimmer.
