2012-2013 Season Review

With 10 seniors to replace from the 2011-12 team, the wrestling team knew other wrestlers would need to step up in order to keep the program consistently in the top five in the state.  Multiple injuries forced the team to call on more inexperienced wrestlers, but the upside is that the underclassmen improved throughout the season and earned valuable experience for the future.

The young wrestlers were counted on to perform, but it was senior Mason Nickell who led the way.  Nickell, wrestling at 195 pounds, advanced all the way to the state finals, where he finished seventh.  In the state tournament, Nickell won the sectional title in his weight class, finished second in the regional and second in the semi-state.  Sophomore teammate Connor James also won a sectional title at 160 pounds.  James finished second in the regional and advanced to the semi-state, where he finished fifth.  Senior Danny Marshall (138 pounds) and sophomore Ethan Briggeman (106 pounds) also advanced through the sectional and regional to the semi-state.
