Wrestling 2016 Review

A young Rebel wrestling team finished with a 10-11 record and registered a sixth-place finish in the Marion County Championship. In the postseason, the Rebels finished fourth in the sectional and advanced seven wrestlers to the regional round. Three of those wrestlers – seniors Nick Ellis, Quinn Cecil and Tyler Smith – advanced to the semi-state. Cecil, a three-year JV wrestler, ended his senior season one match shy of the state finals. Ellis won the individual title at the Spartan Classic (Connersville) at 138 pounds and went 5-0 at the New Castle Duals. He finished as the runner-up in the county, the sectional and the regional. Cecil was the sectional and regional runner-up at 182 pounds. Sophomore Sam Hansen went 5-0 at 145 pounds at the Shamrock Duals at Westfield High School. Freshmen Brian Keeney and Jarrod Shanley won individual titles at Marion County Freshman Meet. Ellis, Cecil and fellow seniors Michael Armbruster and Jordan Sinkhorn were named Senior Academic All-State.
